If you don't want to use the starter base these starts have then you can spawn, or backspace to respawn, into a starter pod. The Star System start doesn't have any planetary pirates, but if you begin with a planet start (Earth, Mars, Alien, Moon, etc) they have several pirate bases on planets that are armed and spawn drones if you get too close. These will be stations, ships, or traps, that may be powered/armed, or may have salvagable resources.
